CM Punjab E-Taxi Scheme Launch Date Announced Taxis to Hit the Roads in August

The Government of Punjab has announced that the CM Punjab E-Taxi Scheme will officially begin in August 2025. The Transport Department is currently finalising all important steps to launch this green transport project across the province.

As part of this scheme, 1,100 electric taxis will be introduced in the first phase. Out of these, 30 taxis have been specially reserved for women drivers to help them take part in the public transport sector. This step aims to create safer travel options and new jobs for women in Punjab.

According to Bilal Akbar Khan, Punjab’s Minister for Transport, an online application portal is being developed with the help of the Punjab Information Technology Board. This portal will make it easy for interested drivers and companies to apply for the program.

To supply the electric taxis, the government has shortlisted nine companies. These vehicles will be offered on easy monthly instalments without any interest. The plan is supported by a strong financial and business model to make sure the project runs smoothly.

In this pilot phase:

• 1,000 electric taxis will be given to fleet owners. Each fleet owner must buy at least 10 vehicles.
• The remaining 100 taxis will be provided to individual drivers, including 30 taxis reserved for women.

The Punjab government will cover important costs such as:

• Vehicle markup
• Token tax
• Registration fees

In addition, selected vehicle suppliers will be responsible for setting up charging stations, service centers, and spare parts facilities across the province to keep the taxis running without any problem.

With this initiative, Punjab is taking a big step towards clean energy, job creation, and modern public transport. The scheme is expected to begin within two weeks, offering new opportunities for both men and women in the transportation sector.
